Tenerife - second week

In the second week we hired a car, or rather a beaten up Opel Corsa. When the hire agreement was marked for dents and scratches it looked like a pools coupon. I am glad it was like that because the driving, parking and roads were interesting.
We went south to Los Christianos and Playa de las Americas. This is a concrete jungle, which I really cannot recommend. Some of the beaches look very good, but I suspect that on a busy day they could be packed. Parking is a nightmare.
The following day we went over the hills, 1117 metres, to see the Dragon Tree that is the most famous tree on the island. This was OK, but it is Puerto de la Cruz that we thought to be one of the best centres on the island. There was some history and culture here, which made it of more interest than the concrete jungles.
On the last day with the car we visited Garachico. This town was inundated by lava from the local volcano in 1706. The new town is built on top of the lava. The two main churches are very beautiful.
The last day of our holiday was probably the best day for weather so we did some serious sunbathing. I did go in the pool, once. It was very cold.
The flight back with Spanair was very good and the welcome at Bournemouth from Customs and Excise, Immigration and Police was very unsmiling.
Thanks to the Chapmans and Ron Taylor for acting as very efficient taxi services.
