DIY nearly finished

Well it is the 22nd August and the renovations have nearly been completed. The matching doors for the unit are being made by someone in Walkford. Last week the solid oak top arrived we had to get it off the top of the lorry - it weighed 72 kilos! I'm glad we didn't drop it. When I say 'we' the other person is the one making the doors, he is also cutting the top to size.
Some of the new decorations can be seen in the photo of Trish and Amy, the blinds had only been up a day!
That's it for a while we're off to France with the caravan to meet up with various people and to sample the wine and food!

Trish and Amy Campbell plus Sue sneaked into the photo.

3 weeks later

After the electrician came the decorating of the hall, kitchen/diner. Then came the new boiler, and some new radiators. That took 3 days. In the mean time I had been making a new island unit using B&Q units. After the units were in the carpet fitter came and laid the carpet and new vinyl.
At this moment in time 10th August the doors have to made for the unit and the solid oak top has to be acquired. After that it should be finished.

Almost there!

Electrical upgrade

To put the DIY electrics to right the electrician had spend 3 hours working out where much of went behind the walls. One junction was under the floorboards in our bedroom.
Anyway he did a very good job and we now have extra sockets in the kitchen/diner. The added bonus was a telephone outlet that he found stuffed inside the wall is now in use on the island unit!

Beware electricians!

The Hall

I have never liked the decor in the hall - custard yellow! This also became part of the downstairs renovation. Part of the problem was that a doorway had been blocked in - badly - so skirting boards didn't fit properly and the wall was a bit lumpy.

Demolition

Well it's only taken 5 years to get started on the upgrading of the kitchen. We have never been happy with the quality of the island unit. Various estimates to replace it were astronomical and I decided that I (we) could do it with the help of some tradesmen.
Anyway the unit had to go and the horror of the electrical wiring behind was revealed.

Unit demolition - not exactly Chippendale!

This wiring had to go - dangerous perhaps?
