Tenerife - Los Gigantes

We had decided a while ago to have a warm holiday in December. We managed to get a good deal through Thompson’s for a one-bedroom self-catering apartment. The hotel was allocated on arrival. The icing on the cake was flying from Bournemouth International (having now been there it is on a par with third world airports).
We ended up in the resort of Los Gigantes, the name coming from the cliffs, which I believe to be the second highest sea cliffs in the world.
The first week we walked around, but it is quite hilly, so on a couple of occasions we returned by bus. We did have an organised tour to Loro Parque, mainly a parrot park that has grown into a zoo. It has the largest indoor penguinarium in the world. 16 tons of snow is dumped onto the penguins (not all at once) everyday. The shows, dolphin – seal – parrot were all excellent. They took up most of the time there (4 hours) because the bus trip took in total 5+ hours when public transport would take 3+ hours. Had we known this we would have gone by the latter.
The weather was as expected 20 degrees C during the day and most days had some sun. The extra daylight 2.5 hours per day was great. We did have some rain, but not too much.
